Glossary
AA - Assassination Attempt or Attempted Assassination BC - Black Caste Charge - A character targeted by an Assassin for Assassination due to coin being accepted. Charge List - A list of those characters who have been targeted by the GBC due to a proven injustice against one who has paid coin for justice to be upheld. The Charge will be hunted by one Assassin. If the Assassination Attempt does not end in a kill of the Charge, then the contract is over and the Charge will be hunted for that crime no more. City of Dust, (sent to or through the gates of) - The City of Dust is the Gorean equivalent of beyond the grave, to be sent to the City of Dust or to be sent through the gates of the City of Dust is to be killed. FW - Free Woman/Free Women IC - "In Character" Pertains to staying within the personality of the character and keeping personal feelings out of the SL. IM - Instant Message In the name of Justice - A saying of the GBC that means a character has been chosen to have Justice served. Just Cause - The term "just cause" is what the GBC uses to describe the reasons an assignment may be accepted, (Charge List), or the reasons the GBC may act on their own, (Justice List). To have "just cause" to target a character, the GBC will require proof of the accusation against the character in the form of logs. All decisions are based upon information provided in the Norman novels regarding common Gorean Laws and information based upon the original AOL Gor GHC guidelines, rules, and regulations. Laws of each city upon Gor are recognized by the GBC, although those laws only extend to the borders of each city and must be stated within the guidelines of the website of each city. Justice List - A list of those characters who have been targeted by the GBC due to an injustice committed. These are unlawful citizens of Gor who have been proven to have blatantly broken the laws of the PKs or the city in which they reside, or the well known laws of Gor. No coin has been accepted for the heads of those on this list. Therefore, they will not be hunted or killed by a single Assassin, merely hunted down and taken out by 2 or more Assassins, thus ridding Gor of it's trash. Justice Will Be Served - A saying of the GBC that means a character will die due to committing an injustice against Gor. Log - A record of what was typed in a chat room using AOLs Log Manager Logged Proof - Having a log that backs up what a character does, proof of what went on in the chat room. Mun - The person behind the character, one who gives life to the character and plays the character's part in the game. Mun Consent - The ability of the person or mun, behind the character deciding what can be done to or with their character no matter what the other characters are doing. Usually pertains to when a person decides they do not like the way the SL is going and backs out or attempts to change the SL without agreement from the other players in the game. OOC - "Out Of Character" Pertains to going out of the personality of the character and bringing personal feelings into the SL, or speaking in the chat room as yourself and not your character. PG - Panther Girl, considered to be a free woman even though an outlaw and will be treated with the respect due all free women, unless such a time comes when she shows such respect is not deserved. Probationary Period - A set time in which a person may decide whether they would like to keep their character in the GBC or take their character elsewhere. R/P or r/p - Role Play, fantasy, not real, make believe R/T or r/t - Real Time, reality, real SL - "Story Line" The basic theme of a story or tale.
NPC Guards - non role-playing character who is a guard of a person or place.
Mun Guidelines/Rules/Regulations
The following is provided to the muns involved in the role-play for information purposes only. If a character is interested in asking the GBC for assistance, then please role play through the meeting and find out the details of what is involved in character, (IC). The GBC is not saying that everyone must follow these guidelines, only that the GBC will be acting upon these guidelines. This is a game and in every game there are rules and regulations. If you have any out of character, (OOC), questions, comments, or concerns about the following, please turn it around and find a way to bring it into the role play, into an IC situation. If bringing it into an IC situation is found to be impossible, contact
Colton Alex Dark at
GBCFounder@GoreanBlackCaste.com
or Lady Petricia at
GBCEn'Scribe@GoreanBlackCaste.com .
Mun guidelines are provided as a courtesy to everyone role playing in the game.
All muns must be at least 18 years of age. Any gender of mun may play a character of the gender of their choice, or an animal. All muns are strongly urged to read the website, the codes, the rules, regulations, and guidelines. The reason for reading the website is due to the fact that if you do not understand the rules of the game it is close to impossible to play the game correctly. Ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking the law and in the GBC Group we adhere to that philosophy. However, people do make mistakes, especially when they are first learning a game. Therefore, the GBC Group works on the "Three Strikes You're Out" rule, which is explained below. All muns are expected to have their character's uphold the codes, guidelines, rules, and regulations of the GBC. The GBC is not telling, (and will never tell), anyone how to play their character, however, all characters are held accountable for thier actions.
Animals
Animals who are played by muns are under no obligation to the GBC, however their actions can get them killed. If you play an animal, keep it realistic to the species of the animal. Do not bring a Larl into the compound attacking people if you want that larl to survive.
Assassins of GBC
Assassins of the GBC are expected to be gentlemen and follow the laws of Gor. If a GBC Assassin breaks any of the GBC Codes he will be put to death. There are no female Assassin's within the GBC. Assassins are paid coin weekly by the Master Assassin, whether they go on contracts or not. Because of this they are expected to do what he says, when he says, and how he says, with no questions asked, for he pays them very well to do just that. An Assassin cannot assassinate another Assassin. The GBC will not target other Assassins of recognized groups, nor will they accept assassinations from other Assassins. They would be equally trained in methods and would be able to anticipate each other's moves.
Characters recognized by the GBC
All Gorean characters are recognized by the GBC, including but not limited to; Free males, Free females, children, slaves, (kajirae, kajiru, daggers, formation daggers), and Gorean Animals.
Characters not recognized by the GBC
Free roaming poison slaves, (as per "book" poison slaves were generally killed on sight), any non-Gorean character such as genetically altered mutations, talking animals, (unless it's a parrot type of bird that can say a few phrases), Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Warlocks, Magic beings, Any aliens other than Priest Kings or Kur, any Rhydin type creatures, characters with super human strength, and "Disney" characters. The above type of characters will not be ignored, but simply will not be allowed to join the GBC, and there is a good chance they will be killed on sight. Character's should stay in keeping within the bounds set forth by John Norman in his Novels about the world of Gor, for the blue flame of the PKs is a powerful tool indeed.
Characters under GBCs Protection
If a character is under the protection of the GBC, which is extremely rare if it happens at all, they are under no obligation to the GBC, other than to follow the laws of the GBC while in the GBC Compound or Darks Estate. The same rule applies to guests of the Compound and/or the Estate, and the Allies of the GBC.
Characters who die for one reason or another
If your GBC Character is killed or dies for some reason, feel free to create another character and remain with the group. If your character continuously makes mistake after mistake, because the mun refuses to adhere to the rules of the game, and is killed for such, then it is obvious you do not like our group and most likely will not remain with us. However, if this is the case, and you, for any reason, decide you'd like to come back to the GBC Group you are welcomed to do so. Please learn from your mistakes and keep mun out of the character.
Crossing Characters
If one of your characters tells another of your characters something about a SL, you need logged proof of that happening in a feasible circumstance. In order for your character to know any IC information it must be role played out within a room or your character must receive an IC scroll, (email), from another character. It must be under feasible circumstances, as in your character must know the one who is sending the information. Again, back up yourself and your character by logging. DO NOT under any circumstances cross your characters, what one character knows the other does not, they are two different individuals.
Default of the Guidelines, rules, or regulations
If a character is in default of the character guidelines three or more times, that character will be terminated, again the "Three Strikes You're Out Rule" applies. A character who is a sworn member of the GBC who goes against the GBC or any of it's codes or guidelines will find the pathway to the City of Dust. The GBC stands for Honor and Justice and expects it's members to be honorable, lawful citizens of Gor. If a GBC member commits an injustice or unlawful act against the citizens of Gor, they will be held accountable for their actions and will receive no leniency.
Dice
GBC Assassin dice are 2d23, this is only after the GBC Member has completed all stages of his training, taken the oath, and bears the marks of the GBC.
GBC Executioner dice are 2d22
GBC Apprentice and Applicant dice are 2d21
Free Men of the GBC Compound who are not Assassin's or in such training use the dice of their last caste, not to exceed 2d23.
Free Women of the GBC use 2d21, unless they are within the compound, then their dice raise to 2d22.
Kajiru use dice of 2d22.
Formation Daggers, see the description elsewhere on this site, dice are 2d22 inside of the GBC Compound and Darks Estate and 2d21 outside of the GBC Compound and Darks Estate.
Registered Pit Slaves use dice of 2d22.
Daggers, see the description elsewhere on this site, dice are 2d21, unless inside the compound then they raise to 2d22,for they are kajira but they have been trained to fight and protect.
Kajirae dice are 2d20.
Side Note: Because of the RRaMC and RSC Guidelines, registered warriors with 2d24 listed dice earned from experience and time with the caste are recognized, though their dice will be matched by the Assassins.
Dice, the use of
Within our role-playing group we will use dice for anything that would need proctoring, such as; DMs, HMs, Spars, Use of weapons, anything of a serious nature that would determine hit points to a character. If your characters are just playing around, say a man swats his mate on the arse, it can be played out without a roll. However, if a man pulls his sword and plunges it through another's chest, a roll would need to be made. There is one exception and if your character is sworn to the GBC you well know what it is.
Excessive OOC whining
If a SL did not go the way you expected it, do not IM everyone and whine about it. Play the SL on through. If your character died because of something you got it into, then simply make another character. Any OOC bickering in an attempt to change the role play situation or the SL in anyway, shape, or form will not be tolerated and the mun causing such will be asked to leave the group and their SL voided.
Harassing other Muns
Harassing of people via IM, email, or any other means will not be tolerated. If a person's character does not act the way you think it should act, then take care of it IC. DO NOT IM someone and complain and whine about what their character does or does not do.
Ignoring SLs and/or Death of your Character
If a SL is not going in the way you would like it, do not ignore the entire SL. Take the challenge of figuring out how, by the actions of your character, to make the SL move towards a more favorable way. SLs are part of the character's history and life. Each SL we play through develops our character into a more complex and interesting individual. The death of a character is hard on the mun, we all will admit to that. However, do not ignore the character's death, for that is part of the game. Simply make a new character and start over, learning from the mistakes made before.
No GBC member will ignore "instant kills" or "AA's", as this would be contradictory of the group considering the GBC is a branch of the Black Caste. It is virtually impossible for a GBC Member to be Assassinated, because each member is guarded by Assassin trained guards whose sole purpose is to keep that GBC Member alive and well.
Leaving the Chat Room
If you need to go “afk” or “brb”, or simply leave the role play to take care of r/t, please role play your character out of the room. If you do not have time to type out the action of your character, as in if there is an emergency, try to at least type "911", to give the other role players a clue as to where your character went. If you play a slave character, asked to be dismissed or IM someone and ask for your character to be sent off on some chore or something. The above is done so the flow of the r/p can be as consistent and as smooth as possible.
The Master Assassin
The Master Assassin is Winston Quebach. Before bringing a free character into the GBC it should be well understood that the Master Assassin has the right to kill any character who has sworn the oath to the GBC, if they dishonor the GBC by their actions or breaking the oath they swear to, WITHOUT rolling the dice for the kill. The life of a character will never be taken without Just Cause.
The Master Assassin is the owner of the GBC Compound and Darks Estate, which consists of the GBC Compound Grounds and the Compound itself.
The Master Assassin is the law of the GBC. He is role played according to the GBC Codes, Guidelines, Rules, and Regulations and he enforces such strictly. He can be harsh, strict, and even cruel. The mun behind the character will not alter him to suit anyone. If you feel this character is doing something wrong, take it up with the character. If you are an Assassin who breaks the GBC Codes, do not be surprised when Winston takes your head. If you are a FW who becomes too mouthy or haughty, do not be surprised when Winston sends you to your chambers for your mate or guardian to deal with, and if you do not have a mate or guardian, do not be surprised by a collar being snapped around your neck. If you are a slave who makes a mistake or is in the wrong, do not be surprised if Winston knocks you across the area with a backhand or simply takes your head. The mun behind the character has nothing to do with the character's standards, he only has given the character life. If Winston kills anyone, it has NOTHING to do with the muns. At times, Winston is not fair, especially with his own men, who he expects to hold to the same standards as he. Winston hold the GBC above and before all.
Mixing OOC and IC
If you are in IMs, you are OOC, your character does not know what is being said or going on in the IM, unless you type in the IM, "IC", then role play on through, as in a guard bringing a message to someone. An example of such follows: "IC" ::a Shadow Guard approaches, nods, and holds out a scroll bearing the message, "Your presence is requested back at the Compound", after the message is delivered, the Shadow Guard disappears into the Shadows:: Keep mun out of the character and the character out of the mun. Keep mun out of the SL of the role play and keep the role play out of mun's reality. Learn to separate yourself from the character's you create. If you are an over sensitive person, or if you take role play too seriously or personally, you might want to reconsider being a part of the GBC Group.
Mun consent after the fact.
This means that a mun refuses to role play out whatever they managed to get their character into. If a mun enters their character into a SL, it is expected that they will play it out. If you do not want the character killed, collared, maimed, etc, then do not place them in a position for that to happen. Gor is a fantasy game of a harsh world with cruel realities. A character, (not the mun), who swears to the GBC has joined for life. There is only one way out, and that is through the gates to the City of Dust or in rare cases, banishment. It would be wise for the mun to read the guidelines, rules, and regulations of the game in order for them to keep their character out of trouble, for that is part of the game.
For those muns who enjoy the excitement of drama; Do not be surprised when your character is killed, collared, or worse because of that characters actions. Do not pull out of, or try to change the history of, the SL that you helped create, it is not fair to the other players and will eventually give you the reputation of one who is not welcomed in any r/p'ing group. Just because a character does something to your character, does not mean that mun is doing anything to your mun. Keep the character and the mun separated, this will prevent a lot of strife and stress from taking root in the role playing group.
Muns Who ignore the GBC
Those who ignore the GBC for various reasons include: 1. Characters that are alive after the GBC has terminated them. 2. Those who have altered their character's SLs 3. Players who have not gotten their way because the GBC will not go against their guidelines or rules. 4. Muns and characters alike that put down the GBC are commonly muns that like to have OOC and IC role play, which is prohibited by the GBC Guidelines.
NPC Guards
NPC, non-role playing character, guards of the GBC are all trained Assassins. The FW of the Estate have 2 to 6 NPC Guards assigned to them. The slaves owned by those of Darks Estate have 1 to 2 NPC Guards assigned to them when the slaves are allowed to roam without their owners. Each member of Darks Estate has a shadow guard which is different from the NPC guards.
The NPC guards of the FW are there to protect the woman from any harm. The NPC guards of the FW have different duties. Half of the woman's NPCs will block and shield the woman from attack or any danger, while the other half will escort the woman to safety.
The NPC guards of the slaves are there to protect the property of the members of Darks Estate. The guards will not engage in combat unless it is unavoidable, they will merely take the slave off to safety.
The NPC guard stats are: roll 2d22, have 12 bps each, and are expendable. The guards sole purpose is to protect and defend. They know that if they fail in that purpose they will die.
Shadow guards have only one purpose, to report what has occurred. The Shadow guard cannot be seen by the character or the other characters in the area. The reason the Shadow guard cannot be seen is that the Shadow guard is none other than the mun of the character. Shadow guards do not engage in combat, do not roll dice, and cannot be killed. Again, Shadow guards only report what has occurred.
Number of GBC Characters per Mun
There is a limit of three GBC characters per each mun. Most of us do not have the time to play more than two characters, but due to requests from many, we have set the limit at three. If you choose to play more than one character in the GBC, we asked that you make one of them the "main character" you play in the group. The "main character" is the one which you will most likely role play most often.
Planned Story Lines
Planned Story Lines will rarely be found within the GBC Role Playing Group, if at all. What is the point of knowing what is going to happen before it happens? It can be likened to having someone tell the ending of a book or how a movie turns out before you've read or watched it. Boring. We play through whatever happens to our characters, this gives the characters a richer and deeper personality.
Probationary Period for those New to the Group
As in most cities and r/p groups on Gor, there is a probationary period for the character to, IC, decide if they would like to join the city and for the mun to, OOC, decide if they would like to be a part of the r/p group. Free characters coming to the GBC have a probationary period of 2 mun weeks. In that time, should they decide not to swear to the GBC, they may leave the Compound with no threat of death or harm. After the 2 mun weeks, the character is giving a choice to swear to the GBC or go elsewhere. Once the character swears to the GBC the only way out is through the gates to the City of Dust which is death. Those playing a slave character have a probationary period of 2 mun days. The difference in time is due to the fact that a slave would have no choice of where they go or what they do, however, since the slave is played by a mun, the 2 days gives the mun the choice. If the mun of a slave character decides they do not want their character in the GBC, the SL of the 2 day probationary period is voided, yet kept on record.
Restore/Delete Characters
Those who must put their character on restore/delete, or who must delete their character for any reason must give notice to the group, (email; Lady Petricia). If a character is deleted with no prior notice given and no explanation is given within one week after the date of deleting, said character will be assumed dead. If after that time the character is seen, the character will be killed on sight in accordance with # 16 of the codes of the GBC. There are instances in which the above cannot be adhered to, such as the AOL account going down, etc.. if it is a case such as this, merely let us know what happened and the character will be restored as a member in good standing with the GBC Group.
Shadow Guards
A Shadow Guard is any mun who plays a character within the game. To keep it IC it is said that the character is "shadowed" by guards who are unseen, remaining in the background, merely watching the character. A Shadow Guard's main purpose is to keep the character safe. Shadow Guard reports are in the form of logs. By logging the chat room your character is in, you are safe guarding your character. If something happens, you have log proof of what when on and have succeeded in backing up your character's side of the story. If you do not have the log proof, then your character's tale of what happened will be shaded with doubt, such as circumstantial evidence, and no action upon it will be taken.
Slaves of the GBC
If you play a slave character within the GBC you need to understand that slaves do not have a choice in anything they do. After the character is locked into the GBC SL, mun does not have a choice in what happens to the character. Do not whine OOC if a SL does not go the way you expected, for your character is a slave according to Gorean Law and you will be expected to play it as such. You, as the mun behind the character, are expected to read the Slave Guidelines in order to understand what is expected of your character. This is, again, playing by the rules of the game. A slave is without name, family connections, owns nothing, and it's life may be taken at any time by the free. If the mun of a slave character goes OOC about anything other than clarification of the r/p or if they go OOC to change direction of the SL, the "Three Strikes You're Out Rule" will be applied and the character will be sent to the City of Dust.
Slaves - The killing of
Free characters may take the life of their slaves or an un-owned slave without rolling for the kill. The life of a character, free or slave, is never to be taken without just cause. The free characters within the GBC will not take the life of the property of another, for it shows disrespect of the owner if their property is killed and it is a right reserved to the owner of said property. If the slave's actions call for the death of the slave, it will be made known to the slave's owner. If the owner is a sworn member of the GBC, they will kill the slave. In rare instances where the slave's actions are so brazen and bold that the clear consequence is, by Gorean law, death, the slave may be killed and coin will be paid to the slave's owner.
Three Strikes You're Out Rule
The Three Strikes You're Out Rule follows along the same "rules" of Baseball. You miss, or make a grave mistake with your character three time and that character will be called down for it, if not killed or banished. This does not mean you cannot make another character and keep on playing with us, unless you continuously cause OOC strife among the players. No one likes a spoiled sport or sore loser. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes and try not to repeat them. Learning a game sometimes takes a while, we understand that and will work with you up to a point. However if your purpose is to try and argue a rule over and over again, it becomes a moot point.
Unrealistic Role Play
Keep the role play as realistic as possible. Gorean Assassins could not jump over tall buildings in a single bound, neither could any other person on Gor. If you shoot an arrow from a pasang away and miraculously hit your target dead center because of the roll of the dice, do not argue the point that it could happen, for in reality it could not, therefore, in the game it could not and would not be accepted as part of the role play.
Role play.. written and implied The Gorean Black Caste stands for Honor and Justice. Though a caste of Assassins, it is not just about killing other people’s characters. Those characters who have committed an injustice or a dishonorable act according to the standard laws of Gor are the only characters who have reason to fear the GBC. Within the role-playing group of the GBC more than 90% of the contracts taken are implied. People tend to forget that Gor is an entire planet with many different cultures and castes of people. We come here and play this game in a fantasy world for the purpose of enjoyment, though there are some who seem to be here only to cause strife among others. Implied role-play includes those basic day to day things we do in life. Whether or not a person wishes to play out those basic activities is entirely up to them. If every part of our characters lives were played out in “real time” we would be consumed by our characters and have no life of our own. Although our characters do receive some training, be they free or slave, most of that training is, in fact, implied. A healer would not be able to learn all they need to know in one year, (three “real time” months). The skills and knowledge of a full fledged Assassin would take many years to learn, therefore we use the implied training to help our characters along in the game. Part of this learning and training is played out, typically about 30% of it. That is why we provide guidelines for each type of character that is played in this game of Gor. The guidelines set up for each group of role players are based upon the novels of John Norman. A character born on Gor would have been raised to know the culture, traditions, and laws of where they were born. A character that is a “barbarian”, one from earth, would have to learn about those same cultures, traditions, and laws. We, as role players, do this by reading the Gorean Novels and researching those many websites dedicated to the game of Gor. As a general rule three “real time” months are equivalent to one Gorean year. One would think that after a barbarian had been a slave for one “real time” month, that slave would know the basics of their slavery. One third of a year is more than enough time for a barbarian to learn their slavery. According to the novels the slave has even less time to learn, if they did not learn they were typically killed. It is up to each person playing this game to find things for their character to do. Others will not provide role-play for you; they are busy playing their own characters. Members of the GBC should be going out to the different places of Gor, (the many different Gorean chat rooms out there), and observing. In what other way will the GBC be aware of any injustices? If there is no injustice to be seen is that necessarily a bad thing? It stated in the Novels that Assassins did not laugh or joke, yet this was part of the mystique that surrounded the Black Caste, it was how the general population of Gor saw them. Those who were innocent of any wrong doing had no reason to fear a Killer, yet those who were guilty of injustice would tremble at the sight of one in black. Pa Kur brought down the reputation of the Black Caste. The GBC is out to right the wrongs of Pa Kur. The creators of GBC designed the GBC for a base front for the character. If mun has to work, if mun is sick, if mun just doesn't want to role play, but desires to have the character either up and running or in restore/delete, also if mun just wants to play one of their other characters, that character of the GBC is assumed to be within the walls of the GBC compound. That character would be doing whatever they do. Just because your mun is not physically online, the character is not dead, the character still breaths, speaks, walks around, eats, etc. Within GBC the players and any who wish to interact with the GBC characters and muns, please keep the following information in mind; if there are NPC children, those children must be played by the primary role player in order to those children to be taken outside of the compound. The mun of the primary role player of the children has to be online, has to be role playing. The primary role player of a NPC child, who will be listed on the GBC roster, may role play the children leaving the compound. A character can not be killed, abducted, or NPCd in any negative way, when the mun is not online, with the exception of a "Dagger". The "Dagger" may be disciplined and can be killed for actions rendered, (as long as the mun of the character is aware of what is happening). NPC guards of the GBC may not be played by any other than those of the GBC within the jurisdiction compound, (Jula, formally known as Darks Village, the GBC Grounds, the Compound, and the forest which is behind such.)
